Volunteer to Be a Tour Guide
Volunteer tour guides are NEEDED for the various bus tours and field hikes scheduled during the Snow Goose Festival. Ideally there will be two guides per tour - guides with birding knowledge or familiarity of the birding areas around Tofield/Beaverhill Lake are requested!
Tours depart from Festival Headquarters at Tofield Curling Club unless otherwise specified. Opportunities available on Saturday and/or Sunday. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for multiple tours during the weekend.
Confirmed guides will be invited to participate in one of two orientation sessions to be held via Teams prior to the Snow Goose Festival. The session will provide more information for guides about how to obtain route maps, how sightings are reported, and other areas of interest to assist in the tours.

2- and 3- hour Bus Tour Guides Tours depart Snow Goose Festival Headquarters (Tofield Curling Cub)
Volunteer tour guides are required on several 2-hour and 3-hour bus tours held during the Festival on both Saturday and Sunday to areas around Beaverhill Lake / Beaver County to view Snow Geese and other migratory birds & wildlife. While similar in nature, the three hour tour provides the opportunity for extended viewing including stops at hot-spots for birdwatching. Tour Guides should be knowledgeable birders (able to interpret birds and signs of wildlife) to bus passengers while leading the tour. There is also opportunities to be a Tour Guide Assistant (those passionate about wildlife but with limited bird knowledge). Prior to the tour, guides should obtain tour route and snow geese sightings information from the information booth at the Snow Goose Festival.
3 hour Field Hikes Tour Guides Tours depart Snow Goose Festival Headquarters (Tofield Curling Club)
We are seeking volunteers for the following positions:
- Tour guides for 3 hour round trip bus from Tofield Curling Club and hike to the BBO banding lab for a banding demonstration.
- Helper at the banding lab to manage crowds, make coffee, boil tea, help with banding and scribing.
- Trade show at the Tofield Arena to assist Helen at the booth, chat with the public, and help with the falcon.
You can sign up for as many shifts as you like; be careful not to overlap any shifts.
